TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama baseball secured the series sweep of Ole Miss with a pair of wins in Friday's doubleheader at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The Crimson Tide finished the 2023 regular season at 38-17 overall and 16-14 in Southeastern Conference play.

The Tide claimed a 12-2 win across seven innings in game one before a 5-1 victory in the nightcap to complete the sweep of the Rebels.

GAME ONE

Alabama defeated Ole Miss, 12-2, in seven innings to start the day's doubleheader and clinch the series win.

The Crimson Tide jumped out to an 8-0 advantage after three innings, scoring two apiece in the first and third frames to go with a four-run second. Ole Miss got on the board with one in the fifth and added one in the seventh, but UA answered with a four-run home half to push the advantage to 10 and end the game after seven innings of play.

All nine starters reached base safely for the Tide with eight of the nine recording at least one hit. Jim Jarvis led the way with a 3-for-5 showing that included a double and team-high tying three runs scored. Caden Rose matched Jarvis in runs as part of his 2-for-3 day that included a home run, one RBI and a walk. Andrew Pinckney led in RBI with three.

Garrett McMillan (3-2) earned his third win of the season with another impressive outing. The senior allowed one run on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts across 5.2 innings of work.

How It Happened

• B1 | Jim Jarvis led off with a double and was followed by a Tommy Seidl walk. After an out was recorded, Andrew Pinckney brought in the game's first run with an RBI-double. A walk to Colby Shelton then loaded the bases for Dominic Tamez who delivered a sacrifice fly to center. (2-0, Alabama)
• B2 | Caden Rose started the inning with a solo homer. Jarvis followed with a single before a one-out single from Drew Williamson put two aboard. Shelton brought them both in with two down by way of a three-run homer. (6-0, Alabama)
• B3 | The Tide loaded the bases with one down before a walk to Williamson pushed a run across. After an Ole Miss pitching change, Pinckney added another tally with a sacrifice fly to center. (8-0, Alabama)
• T5 | A sac fly got the Rebels on the board. (8-1, Alabama)
• T7 | Jacob Gonzalez hit a solo home run to right. (8-2, Alabama)
• B7 | Three consecutive singles loaded the bases before a wild pitch scored one run. A walk re-loaded the bases with Williamson singling to center to score one. A fielder's choice from Pinckney in the next at-bat added one more before a walk to Shelton loaded them up once again. Tamez then ended the game with a 6-3 groundout that scored a man from third for the game-ending run. (12-2, Alabama)

• With the win in game one, Alabama clinched the series victory over Ole Miss and has won three straight SEC series for the first time since 2014.
• All nine starters reached base safely in game one.

• The Tide finished with 14 hits and has totaled double-digit hits in 33 games, including 13 SEC contests.
• Colby Shelton hit his team-leading 20th home run of the season. The freshman's 20 homers are the most at Alabama since Kent Matthes hit 28 in 2009.
• Shelton's 20 homers also tie him for the 10th-most in Alabama single-season history. He matched four former Crimson Tide players with the most recent 20-homer season coming from Beau Hearod in 2003.

GAME TWO

Despite only four hits in game two, Alabama was able to secure a 5-1 win over the Rebels to complete the series sweep.

Both teams scored one apiece in the third with the Tide's run coming on a Bryce Eblin solo homer. The offenses would go quiet until the eighth when Alabama was able to move in front and add insurance with a four-run frame. A Tommy Seidl RBI-single gave UA the lead before a three-run home run by Drew Williamson put things out of reach.

Jacob McNairy was solid once again, contributing 5.2 innings of one-run baseball. He gave up just five hits and issued two walks to go with six strikeouts before turning the ball over to the bullpen. Aidan Moza (3-1) earned the win with 3.1 scoreless relief frames that included three strikeouts.

• B3 | Bryce Eblin tied things up with a solo home run off the foul pole in right. (1-1)
• B8 | William Hamiter walked to start the rally and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Eblin. Hamiter then advanced to third on a groundout before a walk to Jim Jarvis put runners on the corners. A pitching change followed, with Tommy Seidl singling off the new arm to score the go-ahead run. Drew Williamson was next up, clearing the bases with a three-run homer over the wall in right-center. (5-1, Alabama)

• Alabama finished the regular season with 38 wins. That is the most wins by a Tide team in the regular season since 2006 when that roster went 39-17.
• UA accumulated 16 wins in Southeastern Conference play. The 16 wins are the most for Alabama since the 2009 team won 18 games in league play, finishing 18-11 overall.
• The Crimson Tide finished above .500 in SEC play for the first time since 2014 when UA went 15-14. The 2023 campaign is also the first season above .500 in conference play with the complete 30-game league schedule since 2008 when that team also finished 16-14.
• Alabama is now a season-best 21 games above .500.
• UA has won six straight against Ole Miss with back-to-back sweeps of the Rebels in the last two seasons.
• The Crimson Tide has hit a home run in 46 of 55 games in 2023 while producing multiple homers 32 times. Alabama has also hit two-or-more homers in 18 SEC contests including both games of today's doubleheader.
