Lorsung's bomb, Lacatena's shutout lift UK past UF

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Grace Lorsung hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning and Alexia Lacatena threw a complete-game shutout in the circle as the No. 23 Kentucky Softball team beat No. 16 Florida 1-0 on Sunday, taking the game and the series from the Gators at John Cropp Stadium.

In a game that took just one hour and 44 minutes to play, Kentucky earned its biggest series win of the season on just five hits, while only allowing the Gators offense to register four hits in the ballgame. Lacatena went all seven innings with four walks and a strikeout and needed just 102 pitches to close out the game.

With the regular season finished, Kentucky finishes 30-19-1 and closes its Southeastern Conference season 10-14. Florida completes its regular season with a 35-19 overall record and is 11-13 in the SEC. The 2023 SEC Softball Tournament will be played next week at Bogle Park in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The league office will release the bracket later Sunday evening.
