Tennessee women, Florida men lead after Day Four

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (February 18, 2022) - The Tennessee women and Florida men hold on to their leads after the fourth day of the 2022 SEC Swimming & Diving Championships at Tennessee's Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.

To begin the evening session, Riley Gaines of Kentucky set the SEC and SEC Championship meet record in the women's 200 fly with a final time of 1:51.51. Georgia garnered the next two podium spots with Dakota Luther in second with a time of 1:51.65 and Callie Dickinson in third with a time of 1:55.01.

Luca Urlando of Georgia defended his title in the men's 200 fly while setting the SEC and SEC Championship meet record with his time of 1:39.00. Fellow Bulldog Matthew Sates placed second with a time of 1:39.88, while Mason Wilby of Kentucky came in third place with a time of 1:40.15.

Rhyan White of Alabama won the women's 100 back for the third consecutive year with her top time of 50.18. Sarah Thompson of Missouri placed second with a time of 51.35, and Caitlin Brooks of Kentucky took third with a time of 51.54.

In the men's 100 back, Adam Chaney of Florida touched the wall first with his time of 44.51. Ethan Gogulski of Texas A&M finished second with a time of 45.42, and Matthew Menke of Alabama took third with a time of 45.56.

Mona McSharry of Tennessee captured the gold in the women's 100 breaststroke with a time of 57.50, the first Lady Vol to win the event since 2012. Zoie Hartman of Georgia earned the silver with a time of 58.35. Avery Wiseman of Alabama claimed the bronze medal with a time of 58.73.

Derek Maas of Alabama set the pool record in the men's 100 breaststroke with his top time of 50.78. Jarel Dillard of Tennessee finished second with a time of 51.23, and Reid Mikuta of Auburn came in third with a time of 51.41.

In men's platform diving, Juan Celaya-Hernandez of LSU placed first with a score of 430.55. Bryden Hattie of Tennessee came in second with a score of 422.60. Manny Vazquez Bas of South Carolina finished third with a score of 403.95.

Alabama captured the top spot in the women's 400 medley relay for the first time since 1985. White, Wiseman, Morgan Scott and Core Dupre set the SEC and SEC Championship meet record with their time of 3:26.64. Second place went to Tennessee (3:26.88) and third place to Kentucky (3:29.74).

Florida defended its title in the men's 400 medley relay as Chaney, Amro Al-Wir, Eric Friese and Kieran Smith set the pool record with their time of 3:02.61. Alabama finished second (3:03.58), and Tennessee took third (3:04.74).

The 2022 SEC Swimming & Diving Championships concludes on Saturday, February 19. Preliminaries for the 200 back, 100 free and 200 breast begin at 9:30 a.m. ET. Prelims for women's platform diving will begin at noon ET, followed by timed finals for the 1650 free. The evening session will begin at 5:30 p.m. ET with the finals for the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, women's platform and the 400 free relay. Both sessions can be viewed on SEC Network+.
