Texas A&M wins opening match of Morrison era

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M volleyball team secured its first win under head coach Jamie Morrison in the Aggies opening match of the season versus Omaha, 3-1 (25-18, 25-27, 25-12, 25-21).

The opening frame of the 2023 season was a back-and-forth battle which saw the squads tied at nine. The Aggies found their rhythm, as they went on a 10-5 run to lead, 19-14. The Maroon & White continued their surge with a quick two points, forcing a Maverick timeout. Omaha responded with a three-point run, however, A&M regained its momentum closing out the set, 25-18.

he second set started in similar fashion with the teams tied midway through the frame at 14. The Maroon & White strung together a three-point run, prompting a Maverick timeout. Omaha answered with a 7-1 run of its own, knotting the squads at 24. The teams traded points again, but it was the Mavericks who won the set, 27-25.

Needing a response, the Aggies did just that, as they opened the third on a 10-4 run. The Maroon & White showed no signs of stopping, extending their lead (18-9) which forced Omaha to use a timeout. A&M came out of the break on fire, scoring the next three points. The Aggies dominated the remainder of the set, securing the frame 25-12.

Both squads tied together runs of their own, with the teams meeting at 13. The Aggies broke the deadlock, leading to a Maverick timeout (17-15). A&M pushed on following the timeout, extending its advantage further, 21-18. The Maroon & White kept their foot on the gas, winning the set (25-21) and match, 3-1.

UP NEXT
The Aggies play their second match of the Omaha Invite versus Pepperdine tomorrow at Baxter Arena with first serve set for 2:30 p.m.
